PSD Tutorial: Design A Rocky Underwater Seaweed Text Effect
In this Adobe Photoshop CS5 tutorial, we’ll be using a rocky texture to create an underwater seaweed text effect in Photoshop. This is a very unique tutorial that uses textures I’ve never used before and a combination of colours that complement each other well. The effect is enchanting and a little magical, possibly the right medium to develop upon, creating a poster or some type of digital art: the kinds of art that needs to be visually enticing and themed. Post your example on our Facebook for an honourable mention, let’s see who can create the best example.
If you don't have Photoshop, or you want to upgrade to the new CS5.5 Version, take a look at the Adobe Special Offers from the Adobe Store. If you're new to Photoshop, we have some beginner articles and basic tips coming very soon for some of the lesser established designers, which teaches you how to use the basic features of Photoshop, such as Blending Modes, Layer Styles, Text Tools, Cropping/Slicing, Image Adjustments, Brushing, Filters and Photoshop Actions.

Photoshop Tutorial Step 1: Forming The Pink Texture-Less Text
1.1. First of all, Fill (G) your background #B7EE88.
1.2. Now with the Text Tool, type out your text. The font doesn't really matter because it will be edited anyway.
1.3. Apply the splash brushes on the same layer (rasterize the text), making sure they and the text are both Pink #E83C75.
1.4. Duplicate (Ctrl + J) the layer and change the overall opacity to 75%.
1.5. Add a Filter » Artistic » Sponge effect and leave all the settings at their default figures.
1.6. Add a Layer » Layer Style » Outer Glow (white) with 100% Opacity and 250px Size, and then Duplicate again.
1.7. Now you should have something like in the image below. Next, we'll begin adding a rocky texture.

Photoshop Tutorial Step 2: Adding A Rocky Underwater Texture
2.1. Paste (Ctrl + V) in the Underwater Rock Texture and change the Blending Mode to Multiply.
2.2. Add a Layer » Layer Style » Gradient Overlay. Change the Blending Mode (of the Gradient) to Hard Mix and the Opacity to 10%.
2.3. Now, using White on the Colour Palatte, apply the Sparkle Brushes to your own experimentation.
2.4. Alter the Blending Mode to Overlay, and if you'd like, Duplicate the layer to intensify the effect.
2.5. So this concludes our short text effect tutorial, but here is a quick tip for you.
2.6. You can make the overall effect more dramatic, in a calmer way, by lowering the Saturation slightly.
2.7. Add us on Facebook and share the example that you made. The best ones will get an honourable mention! Chow for now.
